This is Destiny who is Kanani in the books.

I would like to fill you in on the back ground of the Sophia Anderson books, so I will start here.


Sophie Anderson is the main character in two of my published works and the star of my new book. I got the idea of writing my first book because of the years I lived in Hawaii with my golden retriever, Kanani. I made Kanani a German shepherd, because I have two now and can use them to take photos for my books. 

So, Sophia was born in Hawaii to a military family. Her father was stationed there during the Viet Nam war. He went over to Viet Nam and was taken hostage. After two years the US Government declared him deceased, whether he was still a hostage or not didn't matter. Sophie was 8 years old and her sister was 12. Their mother took the girls and moved in with her husband's parents, which meant that they had to move to Luxembourg. Sophie's grandfather was a spy for the US Government and was away most of those first years. Her grandmother was from Luxembourg and had always lived there. 
Sophie's mother got very sick, the doctors did not know what it was but she died 6 months after they moved in with the grandparents. So the grandparents adopted the two girls and raised them in the countryside of Luxembourg. Sophie's mother was French and an orphan so there was no family on their mother's side. Sophie and Jennie were inseparable from that time on.

In Kanani's Golden Caves, Sophie married John Barnes. Sophie was only 23 and  
John was her first love, he was 16 years older than her. Sophie met John on Maui a Kanani adventure not yet told.
